Two weeks ago in Ireland I spotted the beverage brand Ribena leveraging fashion to engage consumers by giving away pairs of ‘designer wellies.’ That’s short for Wellington boots, a form of footwear original created by the Duke of Wellington and synonymous with British culture. According to Wikipedia, the shoes are also knows as topboots, billy-boots, gumboots, gumbies, gummies, barnboots, wellieboots, muckboots, sheepboots, poopkickers, or rainboots.
